To All RGSA Members

We are writing to all our members to advise of the changes to the Provincial Health Order for Gathering and Events ("the Order") that affect amateur sports, effective October 29, 2021.

Specifically, the changes include requirements for vaccination of participants, as follows:

  • The Order defines a “participant” as anyone at an event, which includes spectators, but does not include anyone attending in an official capacity as an organizer, supervisor, official, volunteer or event staff.

  • For sport, however, the Order states that an adult (19+) leading, supervising, or assisting a sport program for children and youth must have received two doses of vaccine.

  • This includes coaches, volunteers and officials for indoor and outdoor sport.

  • Youth 21 and under participating in sport are still exempt from showing proof of vaccination.

  • For indoor sport activities, adult participants 22 and older must show proof of vaccination.

  • Spectators (19+) for children, youth and adult indoor sport must show proof of vaccination. The previous exemption for events under 50 people is no longer in place for sport.

The Order remains in effect until it expires or is repealed by the Provincial Health Officer.

Required Actions

Coaches and Volunteers:

  • If you are a coach, assistant coach, team manager, safety manager, or volunteer, you must register with RGSA and upload proof of vaccination as soon as possible.

  • All coaches and volunteers helping to run indoor activities this Fall must register immediately.

  • If you are unable to provide proof of vaccination for any reason, you will not be able to participate in RGSA activities until further notice. Sorry, no exceptions.

  • Coaches are responsible for ensuring all assistant coaches and volunteers have provided proof of vaccination before commencing an activity.

  • Click here to register and upload your proof of vaccination

Parents

  • Parents and family members attending a pitching clinic as a catcher for a player must present proof of vaccination in the form of a QR Code to the coach at the clinic.

    • If you are unable to provide proof of vaccination for any reason, you will be unable to participate in RGSA activities until further notice.

    • Sorry, no exceptions.

  • Parents are not permitted to spectate at indoor skills clinics - players must be dropped off and picked up outside the gym door.

Please refer to the attached communication from Softball BC for additional information.

We appreciate everyone's patience and understanding as we navigate the vaccination requirements.
