2020 Summer Program Update

To All RGSA Members

We hope everyone is keeping well - we are looking forward to seeing you soon at the ballpark! (Yes, you read that correctly!)

As you may have heard, Softball BC recently approved a Return To Play (RTP) plan for softball this summer - you can access the full guide here: https://softball.bc.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Softball-BC-Return-to-Play-Guidelines-Final-Version-June-9-2020.pdf

We are excited to announce that our RGSA Executive approved implementation of the guidelines for our association at our board meeting on June 10.  We are currently busy working on plans to get everyone back to playing softball as soon as possible within the guidelines set out by Softball BC, the City of Richmond and the Province.

We have several steps to complete before we are authorized by Softball BC to hold practices and/or games, and have the appropriate insurance coverage granted to enable us to proceed.

Please note: no softball activities, including team practices, team meetings and clinics, are currently authorized. Coaches will be notified when we are able to proceed.

What do you need to do?

If you have registered for the 2020 softball season with RGSA, please take a moment to complete new waivers for the summer program, as required by Softball BC:

If you have not yet registered or you withdrew your registration and would like to rejoin for the summer program, please register here (the new waivers have been incorporated):

What will the summer program look like?

Our RGSA Executive are working on an implementation plan and will share more details with coaches on how we will structure our program during the summer months in the coming days.

We suggest everyone starts to familiarize themselves with the Softball BC RTP Guidelines, including the expectations for social distancing and sanitization, as we will all be doing things a bit differently for the next few months.

Please monitor your e-mail for updates over the next 2-3 weeks and look for more information coming soon!

What about refunds...?
Due to the evolving nature of the situation with COVID-19 in general, we will evaluate whether we are able to provide a partial refund at the end of the summer when we have completed the program.  Please note that it is our intention to provide a refund commensurate with the program we are able to offer.

For example, if we are only able to offer teams 50% of the number of games usually expected during a "normal" season, we will provide a refund that is reflective of this experience for our players and having taken into account the costs associated with operating the association during this period.

If you have decided not to play softball during the summer months, please contact registrar@rgsa.ca for more information.

What are the association's costs?
As RGSA is affiliated with Softball BC, we are required to register all participating players and submit applicable fees.  Fees payable for the 2020 season are unchanged.

Additionally, we have operating expenses for items such as insurance, facility rentals, clinics, equipment, umpires, and field maintenance.   Due to the additional sanitization requirements, we may have additional expenses for supplies to enable us to implement the requirements set out in the guidelines.

Please contact us if you have other questions and we will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.  Thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding - we hope to see you soon!
