Teams

Regular Season 2019
Learn to Play

From ages 4-10, our players are focusing on having fun and learning to play softball.  Teams are formed with players of all abilities.

Senior Mites have an opportunity to try-out for Supermites and start to play at a more competitive level.

On completing Senior Mites, players have the option of either continuing to play Minor recreational ("house") softball, or may tryout for a Richmond Islanders Rep team.

Minor Rep A / B

RGSA offers the Richmond Islanders Rep program ("A" or "B" division) for players interested in playing competitive softball to a higher level in the U12 to U19 age categories..

Players interested in playing rep softball must attend annual tryouts in September, and will be selected based on skills and abilities.  Players joining rep teams commit to a more intensive program, with practices starting in the Fall.

The rep program is managed by the Rep Committee responsible for overseeing tryouts, player selection and team formation.  Coaches are selected and appointed by the Rep Committee and must be qualified under applicable NCCP certifications.

Minor C (House)

Minor “House” (or "C") softball is for players in the U12 to U19 age categories who choose to continue playing competitive softball at a less intensive, recreational level, or for players who are still developing their skills.  All players registering with RGSA are eligible to play house softball, and there are no tryouts for this division.  Coaches for house teams are typically parent volunteers.

House teams play league games against a range of teams the Lower Mainland from April-June, and RGSA hosts an Icebreaker and medal tournament for each age group in this division.  Teams may also choose to play in additional tournaments, at the discretion of the coach.

Regional or Provincial Championships occur in early July for teams qualifying at Districts in June.

We aim to keep house teams together over time as much as possible. On occasions, we may need to move players or merge teams due to player attrition or to accommodate changes requested by the players themselves.

Players may choose to tryout for the rep program in later years.

Early registration is encouraged to ensure we are able to keep teams together and meet specific requests from players.

Adult (Senior) Program

Softball does not have to end after high school!  RGSA offers a program for Adult Women who would like to continue playing.

RGSA currently has 3 Rep B teams and 1 House D team playing from late April to July.  Teams play in either the New West Senior Women's Softball League based from Moody Park, or Fraser Delta Women's Leagues on the following nights:

  1. New West Senior Women's Softball League - Tuesdays and Thursdays
  2. Fraser Delta Women's League - 2 nights/week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

Home games are held at London Park and typically start at 8:15pm under the lights. Away games are played at various locations throughout the Lower Mainland. Teams can opt to play in weekend tournaments and in provincial championships, which are held in July or August.

Adult Women's teams register with RGSA as a group and can include as many as 20 players and four coaches on the roster.

RGSA offers some reimbursement for tournaments and league fees, and options for jerseys and equipment rental.

Teams are often looking for additional players - if you’re an individual player interested in joining a team, please email Tracy Sherlock, RGSA Adult Women's Coordinator at tracy.sherlock@gmail.com for assistance.
